Description
This is a completely natural kunzite from the Oceanview Mine in Pala, California. The kunzite found in the Oceanview Mine has ranged from light pink-purple to deep blue-purple to deep blue-green (which changes to a deep purple upon exposure to sunlight). The color is very stable and resistant to fading, particularly the darker purples. It was mined in 2010 in the Big Kahuna zone of the mine. This gemstone was custom-cut by Stephen Kotlowski of Uniquely K Custom Gems. It's his own version of a cut-corner triangle. The bulk of the stone is internally flawless, but one small tubular veil or gletz is present near the top outer edge. This is hidden in the facets when viewing the gem from the front. It weighs 43.70 carats and measures 24.84 x 19.18 x 17.02 mms. It currently resides in my private collection.
