are extracted from placers of the Kanchanaburi region in the Makhlong River basin.
Sapphires have blue colours of various intensities. They commonly have a greenish or brownish tint and more rarely are yellow, orange or colourless. Some high-quality, dense blue, transparent sapphires
do not require enhancement. Solid inclusions of feldspars, needles of boehmite, dust-like accumulations of rutile and apatite. The refractive index is 1.761 - 1.769, density is 4.0 g/cm³.
