The mining area at Chaung-gyi-ah-le-ywa (Middle Village at Chaung-gyi) is adjacent to Chaung-gyi village. The mine produces mostly blue sapphires and spinels. Iolite and lazurite are occasionally found. These gems are recovered from the alluvium using open-pits and
myaw-dwin mining methods. The texture and color of the
byôn from this mine is different from that of the
byôn found elsewhere.
Some blue sapphires are very high-quality of faceting and cabochon grades. Star sapphires, rubies, star rubies, rubies of cabochon grade, and quartz are also found.
