Nosean is named after Karl Wilhelm Nose, mineralogist of Brunswick, Germany, who originally described the mineral.
Nosean forms colorless, white, gray, gray-brown, blue, black granular masses, crystals are rare.
May be confused with pale-coloured haüyne.
