The mining area is situated just east of the
Yebu-thapanbin-kyar gem mining area. In 1999 several joint venture companies were mining the sandy alluvium using
lebin and open-pit mining methods. More than two-thirds of the gems recovered are
rubies, fewer are blue and yellow
sapphires,
spinels and
quartz. Dark red rubies with silk are also found, some of them were heated to lighten the dark red color, but without much success. Rubies and red spinels are also recovered from the nearby primary deposit by blasting out different types of marble.
